Plagiarism & AI-Usage Policy — PIF
Protecting originality, academic integrity, and authors’ rights
What we do
- All submissions are checked for originality before peer review.
- Suspected cases are reviewed carefully and fairly.
- Actions follow clear procedures based on COPE guidance.
What is not allowed
- Copying text, figures or data without proper citation.
- Reusing large portions of published work, including your own.
- Submitting AI-generated substantive content as original work.
Plagiarism Policy (Core Statement)
The Proceedings of Indonesia Focus (PIF), published by the Asian Society for International Relations and Public Affairs (ASIRPA), strictly prohibits plagiarism in any form. This includes copying text, paraphrasing the ideas of others without credit, using data, figures or images without attribution, self-plagiarism, and duplicate submission or publication. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism during initial screening are rejected and are not considered for publication.
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the Editor-in-Chief will investigate, with the help of the editorial board where needed. Depending on the extent of the plagiarism, the paper may be corrected or formally retracted. This policy follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and should be read together with our Publication Ethics statement.
Procedures
PIF respects intellectual property and promotes original work. If plagiarism is suspected in a submitted or published manuscript, the editors will contact the corresponding author and ask for an explanation. If the response is not satisfactory, the case will be handled following the COPE flowcharts.
We also consider:
- the originality of the manuscript;
- whether all co-authors agree with and comply with the submission;
- that the rights of research participants have not been violated.
Editor-in-Chief Actions (When Needed)
- Before publication: minor overlap — authors are asked to revise and cite sources correctly; substantial plagiarism — the manuscript is rejected.
- After publication: a correction is published, or the paper is retracted following the COPE Retraction Guidelines. Retracted papers remain accessible and are clearly marked as retracted.
- In serious cases, the authors’ institution may be informed.
- Future submissions from the authors involved may be declined.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
PIF supports transparent and responsible use of AI tools. Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, and AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Ethical AI use for data analysis, proofreading, and language editing.
Generating substantive scientific content with AI and presenting it as original work.
Authors must disclose any AI use in the manuscript. Non-disclosure may lead to rejection.
